Shipping Oversized/Overweight cargo

Transporting oversized cargo (known as project cargo in the shipping industry) requires detailed planning, preparation and organisation. Meticulous attention to detail is required to ensure everything is in place at the correct time.

At t.ward shipping, we have years of experience in transporting and shipping project cargo all over the world for industries such as:
• Oil and gas
• Mining
• Renewables
• Agriculture
• Food and drink

What is oversized and abnormal cargo?

Typically speaking, oversized and heavy cargoes are those too heavy/big for normal sized trailers and containers. So, for sea freight if cargo is over 2.35m width, over 2.6m height or over 11.9m length it ‘may’ be considered too big for standard containers and as such may need an open top or a flat rack container.

Cargoes are considered too heavy once they weigh over 26-28000 kgs. Road freight cargoes are considered too big when length is more than 13.6m, width over 2.4m and height above 2.6m. Heavy-lift and abnormal loads cannot be handled like normal freight shipments, they  often require  specialist moving equipment, and transportation of the freight requires complex planning. The process demands a team of local and global associates with a hands-on approach to ensure your freight is handled responsibly.

We can handle all aspects of project cargo forwarding, whatever the size or complexity of the project. We work closely with clients to provide a bespoke service which includes the following:
